Hanuman Jayanti Marks the Birth Anniversary of Hindu God: Hanuman.

Hanuman Ji was born to mother Anjana and father Kesari in Kishkinda. Today’s Anjaneri in Nasik, Maharashtra. Hanuman is also called the spiritual son of the deity Vayu (Wind god) because of legends associated with Vayu's role in Hanuman's birth.

Hanuman Ji (हनुमान) is a divine vanara (monkey) companion of the Lord Rama. He is an ardent devotee of Rama, one of the chiranjivis, a central characters of the Hindu epic Ramayana and also mentioned in several other texts, such as the epic Mahabharata and Shiva Purana.

He is worshipped as God of Wisdom, Strength, Courage, Devotion and Self-Discipline.

Shiva Purana mentions Hanuman as an avatar of Shiva; all other Puranas and scriptures clearly mention him as an avatar of Vayu or sometimes avatar of Rudra (which is also another name of Vayu).

Hanuman Ji in Mahabharat

Bhima, the mighty son of Kunti and spiritual son of Vayu, once passes through a forest looking for flowers for his wife. Hanuman senses the arrogance of Bhima and decides to teach him a lesson.

As Bhima had been known to be boastful of his superhuman strength. Bhima encountered Hanuman Ji lying on the ground in the shape of a feeble old monkey. He asked Hanuman to move, but he would not. As stepping over an individual was considered extremely disrespectful in that time, Hanuman suggested lifting his tail up to create a passage. Bhima heartily accepted, but could not lift the tail to any avail.

Bhima, humbled, and realized that the frail monkey was some sort of deity, and asked him to reveal himself. Hanuman revealed himself, much to Bhima's surprise, and the brothers embraced.

Hanuman Ji prophesied that Bhima would soon be a part of a terrible war, and promised Bhima that he would sit on the flag of his brother Arjuna's chariot and shout a battle cry for Bhima that would weaken the hearts of his enemies.

Appearances of Hanuman Ji in Modern Times

Hanuman Ji appeared again in early 1600s in front of Goswami Tulsidas (1532–1623) who was a Ramanandi Vaishnava Hindu saint and poet, renowned for his devotion to the deity Rama and Hanuman.

It is believed that the temple of Sankat Mochan in Varanasi has been built on the very spot where Tulsidas had a vision of Hanuman. Tulsidas Ji is the author of the Ramacharitamanasa, which is known as the greatest version of lord Ram story written in Avadhi.

In the modern times, Baba Neem Karoli (1900-1973) (lovingly called Maharaj Ji) who was a well known ardent devotee of Shri Ram and Hanuman, is said to meet Hanuman Ji.
